One of the most earthquake (with up to 8.5 on the Richter scale) prone areas on earth,
Indonesia, is planning to build the world's largest suspension bridge in order to connect their islands
Sunda Strait bridge will be at least 29 kilometers(18 miles) between Java and Sumatra.
feasibility cost = 10 Billion USD until 2009 and 2010
According to Professor Wiratman Wangsadinata, the planned bridge will be around 200 kilometers from the "subduction zone" where the Australian and Asian plates come together.
Pri Hariadi, from the Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency, thinks Wangsadinata makes the right assumptions, saying: "I believe that [an earthquake] will not pass the 8.5 record."
